THE PRINCIPAL CIVIL ENGINEER is an advanced journey-level classification which requires a degree in Civil Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (PE). The successful candidate will be expected to perform responsible, difficult, professional engineering work and/or plan, direct, and coordinate engineering activities relating to City public works engineering and private development projects; enforce Federal, State, and local regulations and codes; serve as Engineering Design/Construction section manager; and perform other related duties, as assigned.

The selection process for Principal Civil Engineer will include a detailed review and appraisal of each candidate's application and supplemental questionnaire, and an oral interview. Those candidates who successfully complete all phases by earning a minimum overall weighted score of 70%, shall have their names placed on the Employment Eligibility List for Principal Engineer. The prospective candidate must successfully complete a thorough background review which may include a credit history check.
