About the Public Works Director position
We are looking for a proven leader who will look forward to building a thriving community. You will lead our award winning Public Works Department by providing strategic and collaborative expertise to plan, direct and manage the overall direction of the department. You will have strong communication and leadership skills with a proven track record of accomplishments. You will have extensive knowledge and background in public works administration and operations. You will have experience with effectively managing and leading projects in an agency of comparable size and complexity.
Vital to the success of this role are strong collaboration skills and the ability to establish and maintain strong partnerships with elected officials, staff, labor unions, citizens, regulatory bodies, contractors, and other governmental agencies.
Previous experience managing in a union work environment, leading challenging projects, resource allocation, and strong budget skills to reflect departmental priorities are essential in this position.
The Public Works Director reports directly to the County Executive.
About Snohomish County Public Works
Public Works is the largest department within Snohomish County government. We have a staff of 630 employees maintaining county roads, bridges, traffic and the general transportation system in unincorporated Snohomish County. We oversee the disposal of solid waste (trash and recycling), and manage and monitor surface water quality and fish habitat, including storm water drainage and flooding.
