The City of Douglas is seeking an experienced and progressive leader to serve as our next Public Works Director for our Utilities and Public Works team.

We are planning our future with a new Wastewater Treatment Plant coming on line fall of 2019, foreseeable annexations to three areas in our planning boundary and infrastructure delivery to the much anticipated, federally funded commercial port of entry project going in west of our current city limits for a two-port solution to meet the global needs of international trade and commerce. We are looking for an individual with strong communication and people skills. Must have the desire to guide and provide our staff with the trainings and/or other methods necessary to keep up to date on efficient public works processes. JOB SUMMARY:  Leads in a complex supervisory, administrative and professional work environment, planning, organizing, directing, and managing the Public Works staff which may include the following functional areas: Environmental Compliance, Facilities Maintenance, Utilities, Street Maintenance & Preservation, Sanitation, Fleet Maintenance, Stormwater, Building Safety, and Code Compliance.  Performs complex and professional engineering for city projects and programs ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current federal, state and local laws, codes and criteria.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field, and a minimum of five years of professional civil engineering experience preferably in the public sector.  The ideal candidate will be a proven leader and effective manager of a Public Works Department with pavement preservation techniques knowledge and water and wastewater engineering understanding. An equivalent combination of education and appropriate experience may be substituted. Valid Arizona Drivers License is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Arizona. Must obtain CPR Certification. Residency within ten miles of the corporate limits of the City of Douglas, within the United States, required within a reasonable time after hire date.
