Salary: $63,007 - $72,000 a year
Amherst County is seeking an experienced and innovative manager to serve as the director of the Public Works department. The Public Works Department includes three divisions and is responsible for solid waste, grounds, facilities maintenance and fleet management. The County operates six convenience centers, a two hundred acre landfill, fifteen facilities and five parks. It is transitioning to landfill closure and a waste transfer station. With a team of thirty dedicated employees, the Public Works Director ensures that the County meets all state and federal requirements and county assets are appropriately operated and maintained.
Successful candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in public works, engineering or a related field with significant experience in landfill operations, facilities and/or fleet management, and staff supervision. Licensure as a Waste Management Facilities Operator Class I/Class II in accordance with Virginia standards is required within 24 months of employment. Past experience in successfully managing a diverse range of operational functions similar to those contained within Amherst County's current department structure is a strong consideration. Direct technical experience in the areas above is also an important factor.
