MAINTENANCE WORKER I (Full-Time: $3,645 - $4,430/mo.) FINAL FILING: Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.

The Position To perform a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City park, sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems. To perform required labor involving construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including: pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling; routine inspection and preventative maintenance on City property and equipment. Maintain records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, consumption, etc. Paint park buildings, remove graffiti, strip, wax, and buff floors, rake leaves and clear debris from walks, fields, and other facilities, pick up trash, trim and prune bushes, trees, and shrubs; respond to complaints regarding water leaks, maintenance problems; evaluate situations and explain findings to supervisors. Operate a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the maintenance of park, street, and water facilities. Drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand. Insure the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment, vehicles, and tools after each use. Essential Job Functions Read, write, and speak clearly and effectively using the English language. Maintain a positive working relationship with peers, management, and the public. Have knowledge of the materials, methods, techniques, and standard tools associated with the public works construction, repair, and maintenance activities and ability to perform those activities. Follow oral and written instructions. Operate a motor vehicle, possess and maintain a valid Class-C California Driver License. When required, work varied schedules in excess of 40-hours a week, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities § Some knowledge of the equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities. § Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment. § Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; work safely; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; understand and carry out written and oral instructions. § Knowledge of safe driving principles and practices. Education and Experience Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and one year of recent, related experience in construction, maintenance, or repair. City maintenance experience preferred.
