The City of Manhattan Beach is now accepting applications for an Engineering Technician II/I in the Community Development Department. Under general supervision, the Engineering Technician II/I performs responsible sub-professional office and field work involving, drafting, data collection, and inspections and does related work as required.

The Engineering Technician I is an entry-level classification, as incumbents may have limited experience. Duties are similar to the Engineering Technician II, however the Level 1 employee is not expected to perform with the same independence and judgement on matters related to established procedures and methods. The Engineering Technician II is an advanced journey-level class, responsible for project coordination and greater authority over assignments and decisions required to complete the work.

The Engineering Technician I/II must have knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering, design drafting, AutoCAD, and basic construction principles. The candidate must have a variety of skill sets such as, mathematical calculations, ability to keep accurate records and prepare plans and drawings neatly and accurately. The incumbent acts as a project manager on selected projects, prepares studies and reports, makes presentations, and conducts administrative duties in the traffic division. The incumbent may be required to work shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.

Engineering Technician I: Requires any combination equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of sub-professional civil engineering office or field work experience.

Engineering Technician II: Requires any combination equivalent to graduation from high school AND five (5) years of responsible experience in sub-professional civil engineering office or field work, including two (2) years as a drafter using computer aided drafting and design. An Associate degree in math or engineering is desired.

License: A valid "C" California driver's license is required at the time of employment for both levels.
