The City of Fairfield is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill two Senior Civil Engineer vacancies within the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. Within the Capital Improvement Program Section, the Senior Civil Engineer will perform complex engineering assignments, manage capital projects from inception to completion, oversee project/program budgets and expenditures, assist in the development and implementation of long range planning, engage with stakeholders, partner with external agencies, prepare formal proposals for consultant services, administer contracts, and resolve claims. Within the Development Review Section, the Senior Civil Engineer is charged with the timely review of development applications, stormwater management, and the review and issuance of various permits, such as grading and floodplain permits.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate will have considerable working knowledge of the concepts, precedents, principles, laws, practices, methods, standards, procedures, and techniques pertinent to municipal engineering, including the mechanics of solids (particularly of soils), hydraulics, theory of structure, strength of materials, engineering geology, and surveying; of engineering economics and cost estimating; of environmental laws and regulations; and of supervisory, budgetary techniques and practices.
One who has the ability to effectively supervise complex professional and technical activities; to maintain full knowledge and control over assigned areas of responsibility; and to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives general direction from the Assistant Director of Public Works/City Engineer or Assistant City Engineer. Exercises direct supervision over assigned registered professional, professional, and technical support personnel.
Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities for assigned engineering section.
Assign, direct, and supervise professional and subprofessional staff engaged in a variety of engineering projects.
Perform complex studies and analysis.
Provide engineering assistance to developers, contractors, consultants, other agencies, and the general public to resolve complaints and problems and ensure successful project completion.
Develop and support master planning work which includes insuring the development projects are compatible with Master Plans.
Assist in planning, preparing, and monitoring the capitol improvement budget.
Review and prepare reports, studies, applications, and documents pertaining to project work.
Prepare general correspondence, technical reports, statistical reports, and City Council agenda items.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
