The City of Lafayette (pop. 24,000) is recruiting for the position of an Public Works Inspector. Lafayette prides itself on its vibrant downtown, beautiful tree-studded hillsides and great schools.  Lafayette residents expect personalized service to deliver customized solutions to the community’s unique engineering and public works priorities.  This position will be part of the team whose mission is to meet that challenge, and to ensure that Lafayette retains its semi-rural character and "small town" downtown feel.

Position will primarily provide inspection services for encroachment permits, perform “clean water” inspections, send code enforcement letters with follow-up inspections, and support City maintenance projects.  The inspector will spend a significant portion of time in the field.

The ideal candidate will have familiarity with principles, procedures, methods, materials and techniques used in public works projects including appropriate safety practices.  Qualified candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively with the public and possess field inspection experience.  Equivalent of a high school diploma supplemented by college level coursework or training in engineering or a related field plus two years of public agency experience in public works infrastructure construction, inspection or similar experience is a typical way to obtain the required qualifications.

The salary range for the position is  $74,414 — $97,883.
