The City of Garden Grove's Public Works Department is looking for qualified applicants for the position of a Public Works Foreman. Under general supervision of a Public Works Supervisor, the Public Works Foreman directs and performs the skilled work of one or more field crews of the Public Works Department. The Public Works Foreman leads field crews in specific work assignments, along with filling-in for the supervisor during absences, and training personnel in the use of equipment and methods of maintenance.

The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and construction of all municipal facilities and equipment and associated infrastructure. This includes streets, sidewalks, parks, public buildings, street trees, flood control channels, traffic signals and City-owned vehicles and equipment. Additionally, the department is responsible for the City's water system and managing trash and recycling services.

This position will work a "9/80" schedule (meaning every other Friday off) with occasional changes and additional hours to accommodate needs.

The ideal candidate possesses experience supervising and directing the work of a field crew, developing working relationships assessing work situations to resolve problems and make appropriate decisions; is thoroughly knowledgeable in safety law and OSHA regulations; and can clearly communicate orally and in writing.

Three years' journey-level experience performing duties directly related to the specific work section that is being applied for including at least one year as a senior maintenance worker.


Graduation from an accredited High School or successful completion of the G.E.D. (General Educational Development) exam. 

Water Distribution Section

To qualify for this work section, an individual must possess a "T1" and "D3" water certifications as required by the California Department of Health Services and a California "Class B" Driver's License. A California "Class A" Driver's License with a tanker endorsement is highly desirable. In addition, the individual must possess experience on the gate valve crew, working with both new and replacement water systems, and the inspection and testing of such systems. Additional experience requirements include scheduling, inspecting and overseeing maintenance and installation of commercial and residential water systems.
