The City of San Marcos is currently recruiting for a qualified Senior Civil Engineer to join the Land Development Engineering Division.

Salary: $101,274.37 - $132,140.08 Annually

San Marcos is purposefully shaping its emerging community, and as a Senior Civil Engineer in the Land Development Engineering Division, you will help guide that legacy.

Your Day-to-Day
The Land Development Engineering Division coordinates the City's engineering and technical review of private development applications such as subdivisions of land, grading, public and private improvements, and site development plans. Working with applicant/developer teams, City staff, interested residents, and external agencies, the Senior Civil Engineer helps to guide projects from inception through the entitlement process, to the development of construction drawings, and into construction.

The Senior Civil Engineer is an expert in engineering standards, regulations, City policies, and professional standards of practice who operates collaboratively to achieve solutions to engineering issues for projects such as single family homes, improvements within the floodplain, and 200-acre commercial, mixed-use, and residential developments.

You will facilitate exciting projects such as the development of the City's new North City downtown area, improvements surrounding the University District, and revitalization of San Marcos Boulevard into the vision identified in the Specific Plan.

The Senior Civil Engineer reports to the Principal Civil Engineer and helps to organize workload, highlight potential issues, and resolve challenging technical issues. This position also has an important role in mentoring and cultivating the development of junior staff. Each day will present new projects, different challenges, and the opportunity to engage to create positive development and growth in the community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or an engineering-related field.

Experience
Five years of responsible experience in civil engineering, with two years of experience leading staff and/or supervising projects. Municipal or public agency experience preferred.

License
Possession and maintenance of a valid certificate or registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
