Under general administrative guidance, to plan, direct, manage, and oversee the activities and operations of the Public Works Department including water distribution, sewer maintenance, streets, drainage, fleet, parks, landscape, traffic signals, street lights, animal control, facilities, and special district maintenance; to coordinate assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for providing effective and efficient public works services; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to executive City management.

The Ideal Candidate

The City seeks a candidate with a proven track record in directing all facets of municipal Public Works. He or she will be professional, trustworthy, ethical, assertive and will be able to implement policy and execute directives in a responsible manner. Effective motivational skills in managing a team of sixteen employees in various classifications is a necessary characteristic of the ideal candidate. The Director of Public Works will inspire his or her team with creative and forward–thinking visionary leadership. The ideal candidate will be able to work constructively and collaboratively within the Management Team to bring the City’s strategic goals and objectives fruition. The ideal candidate will be able to lead the City’s Public Works operations in a responsible and proactive manner, aggressively working to improve and enhance the quality of the City’s public works.


Ten (10) years of responsible public works experience including five (5) years of management and supervisory experience. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree is desirable.
