This class performs skilled technical duties in area of specialty and on specific projects, often performing general supervision of the work of Assistant and Technician level project team members.

This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing. 

Examples of Duties

Serves as a lead to lower level staff, which includes: prioritizing and assigning work; training staff on work methods and procedures; and/or, performing other related activities

Retrieves, designs, develops, and reviews plats, plans, maps, legal documents, improvements, enhancements, and any survey related documents

Coordinates efforts with applicable technical staff; performs related engineering type calculations and design/layout associated with projects by providing input, assistance, and recommendations for design/survey projects

Performs studies and analysis of engineering related issues by gathering field and historical data and preparing recommendations based on findings

Participates in implementing and monitoring construction/survey projects in assigned area of responsibility by inspecting and monitoring the work of contractors/survey crew to ensure compliance with applicable standards

Receives and responds to complaints and/or inquiries from the general public, other governmental agencies, and other internal departments

Serves as a liaison with private engineers, contractors, and the general public in the discussion and explanation of regulatory requirements, County codes, bid requests, processes, procedures, and/or other related issues

Participates in a variety of meetings related to assigned projects, departmental activities, and/or other related activities

Participates in creating and/or amending engineering/county survey requirements, construction details, standard operating procedures, departmental policies and procedures, and/or other related items

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
 

Positions assigned to Traffic may be responsible for: 

Designing traffic control signs, markings, and related items for in-house use 

Coordinating work orders received for traffic signal repairs 

Evaluating crash data to determine trends/concern areas for improvements

Evaluating new traffic control devices for safety upgrade considerations 

Preparing cost estimates and quantity take-offs for design projects

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in area of specialty and three years of experience in an engineering technician and/or CADD or similar position; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence

Ability to:
read and interpret blueprints, maps, plats, and related documents

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements: 
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.  Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, dusts, extreme temperatures, intense noises and travel.
