Summary 

The individual in this diverse and challenging role will be responsible for providing engineering expertise to a variety of public works projects for a vibrant small city in central Connecticut.  This is an extraordinary opportunity to make a genuine difference to this community.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the civil engineering, drafting, inspection, and record keeping sections of Engineering Division including all related staff
  • Providing technical review of the preparation of plans, specifications, and designs for public works projects, including street and sidewalk construction, drainage improvements, recreational fields, and facilities improvements 
  • Reviewing costs and materials estimates 
  • Investigating problems and complaints and preparing design changes as needed 
  • Preparing reports and providing analysis in specialized engineering areas 
  • Assisting applicants in applying for construction permits 
  • Participating in long-range and near-term planning
  • Making formal presentations to various community groups

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or equivalent
  • Registration as a CT Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience 
  • 1+ year of project supervisory experience 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of land surveying to include boundaries, topography, and construction; principles and practices of municipal land use, and construction of public infrastructure 
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, design, and development of public infrastructure 
  • Ability to analyze and interpret laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations
  • Proficient use of computer programs and applications related to engineering design and project management 
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with computer aided drafting (CAD), spreadsheet, and word processing software 
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
