Starting salary range: $107K-$117K DOQ, plus excellent benefits. The Director of Public Works reports to the City Administrator. The city government is comprised of a Mayor and Eleven Alderpersons elected on a non-partisan basis. The DPW oversees an approximate $14M annual operating budget including Airport (contract); Building Inspection, Community Services, Engineering, Solid Waste, Storm Water, Water, Wastewater and Zoning. Leads a staff of 45 FTE and 20 part-time and seasonal employees. The city 2023-2024 Capital Improvement Budget is approximately $5M which the DPW Director also oversees. Future opportunities for the next Menomonie DPW Director include building out the 160-acre Technology Park; expanding the already extensive City biking network; development of a Menomonie Airport Plan; organization of the department’s new 32,000 square foot Community Services Facility addition and planned Wastewater and Water Utility expansion projects.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree and a considerable amount of training, experience and knowledge in Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related fields. This position requires advanced professional knowledge in modern theories, principles and practices of public works administration, engineering, capital project construction management, field maintenance operations and program development. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in public works management and supervision is desired. A professional engineering license is preferred but not required. A valid Wisconsin’s driver license is required. Local residency is necessary for proper emergency response.
The next Menomonie Director of Public Works must have excellent communication skills and be able to establish a good rapport with a wide variety of community residents as well as organizational stakeholders.
