The Assistant Director of Public Works will assist the Director of Public Works/City Engineer in providing administrative direction in the planning, operation, maintenance and improvement of water/wastewater collection, water treatment, wastewater treatment, TCEQ regulations, street and drainage infrastructure, and traffic control system. Will oversee the Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) and implementation. Champions customer service, technological improvement and fiscal stewardship and responsiveness within the Public Works & Engineering Services Department. Assists in short- and long-term planning, budget management and mission quality assurance. Responsible for the promotion of employee engagement, education, and professional development.
Salary: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 (Yearly Salary)

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills—
Ability to read and understand materials including federal and state regulations, code books, contract documents, construction documents, personnel policies, budget documents and technical manuals. Knowledge of current and proposed rules and regulations regarding water and wastewater treatment and other public works activities. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to determine materials and supplies for projects and to estimate cost and time. Skill in math.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification—
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Engineering or a related field; AND five years of progressively responsible experience (including managerial) in several of the functional areas of public works including water/wastewater collection, water treatment, wastewater treatment, TCEQ regulations, street and drainage infrastructure, and traffic control system OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Possession of a Class “A” Water and a Class “A” Wastewater Operator’s License or registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas preferred. Texas driver’s license with driving record that meets City guidelines.
