The Assistant Director of Public Works for Maintenance Operations is an at-will management position that works under the administrative direction of the Director of Public Works to oversee, direct and participate in major activities and programs of Maintenance Operations. The position oversees the functions of maintenance and operations of various City infrastructure, systems, facilities, and appurtenances. The position also provides professional-level, complex and responsible support to the Director of Public Works.

The Public Works Department is responsible for ensuring reliable operation and maintenance of public infrastructure to protect public health and safety. The Department complies with State and Federal regulations for water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collections, recycled water, distribution, stormwater, flood control, solid waste, household hazardous waste, and fleet operations. Additional functions include maintenance of streets, medians, sidewalks and signage; parks, trails and open space; urban forestry; traffic signals and street lights; public facilities; and administration of special districts. The number of total FTE positions in the Public Works Department is 78.96. The Department is comprised of two main divisions: Utilities and Operations. There are 45.96 FTE positions within Operations, including and led by the Assistant Director of Public Works for Maintenance Operations. The Maintenance Operations division plans, oversees and administers maintenance of the City’s 165 miles of roads and right-of-ways, 178 miles of sidewalks, 105 miles of open channels, fleet of 279 total vehicles and equipment, 75 facilities, 232 developed park acres, and trails and open space. The division protects public health and safety and ensures regulatory compliance, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness during normal and emergency operations.

 

Qualifications:

The following are minimum qualifications required for the Assistant Director of Public Works for Maintenance Operations: Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education from an accredited educational institution with major coursework in engineering, public or business administration, or a related field. Experience: At least eight years of responsible professional public or private public works operations and maintenance experience, to include four years of supervisory, management, and/or administrative experience.

The compensation for this position is dependent on qualifications and experience. The monthly salary range is $9,937 to $12,080. In addition, the City offers an excellent benefits package.
