Job Title: Senior Engineer

Salary Range:$67,912.00 To $111,301.00 Annually
Engages in and supports the mission of the Design, Environment and Construction (DEC) Division of Public Works through strategic planning, creative problem solving, decision-making, and responsible stewardship of City resources.
Plans, directs, and supervises the work of Engineering Section personnel; plans and schedules work; establishes priorities; instructs and trains personnel in correct methods and procedures; monitors work; reviews and evaluates employee performance.
Evaluates the City's transportation and storm drainage infrastructure, helps determine capital improvements that improve performance, reliability and safety, and better achieve key planning goals such as active healthy lifestyles ( e.g., walking and biking), Safe Routes to Schools, and environmental sustainability.
Responsible for development review related to transportation and storm drainage engineering. Assist with design of capital projects on an as-needed basis.
Represents the City in development review process related to transportation and storm drainage design and acts as liaison with other City departments involved in the review of land development projects.
Provides information to and deals with developers, engineers, contractors, the public and outside agencies in relation to transportation and storm drainage design issues. Reviews drainage studies and reviews design of the storm drainage system (e.g., storm sewers, culverts, open channels) and storm drainage design related to walks, drives, streets and other transportation improvements for development projects.
Assists the public and other governmental agencies with questions relating to the design, construction and operation of City of Decatur facilities.
Builds, supports, and maintains the highest level of teamwork and coordination among Public Works Department staff, DEC Division staff and generally supports the shared goals of the City of Decatur.
Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of the DEC Streets and Drainage Section personnel through close coordination with the Project Civil Engineer and Crew Supervisor; writes up work orders and coordinates field activities; ensures employees are properly trained; inspects and monitors work of employees; reviews and evaluates employee performance.
Supervises, inspects, and evaluates work performed by contractors on in-progress City, utility, and private construction projects; ensures that work meets goal, plans and specifications and complies with local , state and federal requirements.
Reviews site plans and subdivision construction plans and meets with developers, architects, and engineers to resolve problems concerning compliance with environmental ordinances, assesses need for soil erosion permits, storm water detention/water quality and general construction issues.
Additionally, the Senior Engineer would be expected to have the ability and willingness to work in teams across City Departments to advance these practices at the site, neighborhood, and City levels.
