The Associate Civil Engineer will perform project level planning, analysis, design, construction, inspection and project management for water and wastewater projects, as well as general civil engineering for projects associated with water and wastewater utilities. The Associate Civil Engineer is eligible to earn a salary range of $7,830 - $9,554 per month.

Associate Civil Engineer Position Overview

  • Perform standard engineering tasks including surveying, plan check activities and inspections of project work; participate in construction tasks; make mathematical engineering calculations; review and interpret construction and utility maps, diagrams and plans, assist with researching and preparing cost estimates; conduct special studies such as uni-directional flushing, CIP strategy; prepare accurate detailed reports
  • Prepare plans and specifications for bidding and construction of water and wastewater projects. Example projects can include but are not limited to pipelines, pump stations, water production wells and equipping, treatment process modifications
  • Provide inspection and construction management functions on behalf of the City during implementation of the projects
  • Coordinate project activities with City staff, the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) and other stakeholders for compliance on utility projects; research and document utility conditions and locations in the field

Required Qualifications
Experience: Five years of responsible experience in engineering work.

Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or a related field.

License and Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis. 

Possession of a valid Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
