he Town of South Hadley, MA is seeking a superior manager and communicator to lead the South Hadley Public Works. This is a full time, professional position under the direction of the Town Administrator. The Director is in a position of high responsibility and plans, organizes, directs and controls the operations and activities of the public works department including those relating to the Town’s sewer system, streets and sidewalks, right of way, storm drainage, solid waste and recycling; town vehicles/equipment; town and school building grounds; parks, playgrounds and athletic fields and the maintenance of the Town’s public shade trees.
The Director will be called upon to develop and implement long and short-range plans, develop and prioritize capital needs; prepare and document budget requests for all operation costs, equipment purchases, and construction and maintenance projects; oversee departmental purchasing, develops technical specs for bids, and monitor and control expenditures.
Additionally, the Director will work collaboratively with HR in regard to personnel recruitment, discipline and labor negotiations. This position requires a full working knowledge of all the regulations, methods and equipment necessary to oversee and manage daily operation; the ability to handle a variety of projects, at times simultaneously; and to interact effectively with citizens, private contractors, regulatory officials and department employees. The Director is also tasked with seeking applying for, tracking and implementing appropriate grant opportunities.
Successful candidates should possess a combination of the following desirable qualifications: three years public works, private sector utility or management experience and preferably a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, public administration, management or related field of study.

Salary range $89,000 – $99,000 DOE/DOQ.
