The Engineering Department provides engineering services from design to final construction phase. St. Cloud is one of the few cities in the State of Minnesota that has their own Engineering Team. It is often mentioned by members of the Department on the gratification on being able to design and develop projects, see them through construction and see the impact the project has on the community.

Some of the services provided by the Department includes; field surveys, inspection of in-place facilities, feasibility reports, project designs, preparation of plans and specifications, contract administration, construction inspection and documentation, as-built plans, conduct informational meetings and special assessment rolls.

The department has a total of 12 full-time employees. Supervision and leadership of department staff is a shared responsibility of the City Engineer, Assistant City Engineer and Public Services Director.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader and supervisor with the ability to work collaboratively and strategically in the best interest of the City of St. Cloud. Strong interpersonal communication and excellent critical thinking skills will be imperative to the success of the individual in this role. The primary responsibility for this position will be acting as an administrative department head, interfacing on a daily basis with multiple technical teams and staff in the planning, design and construction of public infrastructure projects. The position will also be required to assist in determining departmental budgets by advising the Public Services Director, City Administrator, Mayor and City Council. Candidate must have excellent communication skills to work with technical professional, administrative and elected officials, contractors and the general public. Extensive knowledge of engineering principles is desired, for both long-range planning and detailed design and construction of complex multi-million dollar public infrastructure improvements.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in civil engineering and public works administration experience. A minimum of 7 years experience in engineering or related field, including 5 years in an administrative/leadership role. Possession of, or ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota. Valid Minnesota driver's license.

The 2023 salary range for this position is $117,304 - $157,703.  Employee benefits are competitive, generous and include:
