This is a senior level position; the Director of Public Works is responsible for the City’s infrastructure and responds to the City’s residents on various matters related to the Public Works department. The City has a commission form of government, and the Director receives general direction and broad policy guidance from the Commissioner of Public Works and the Commissioner of Water, Parks, and Recreation. The Director of Public Works reports to the City Administrator.
Education and/or experience requirements are a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering or related field, or extensive work experience in a responsible position in the public works, engineering, utilities, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The salary range for this position is $56,000 to $75,000 based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include medical insurance; Maryland State Pension; vacation, sick, and administrative leave; paid holidays; life insurance; dental and vision stipend; and voluntary benefits including a 457 defined contribution retirement plan. Work hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday in addition to availability for emergency utility issues 24/7 and monthly evening meetings.
