The Public Works’ Administration and Engineering Team works on the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which includes projects for our full-service agency. Individuals with interest or experience in CIP, Land Development, and Traffic Engineering are encouraged to apply. Now is an exciting time to join our team with a robust CIP program, community interest in infrastructure, and the development of several large public projects. Most notably, the construction of a new water tank, replacement of existing water tanks, new well installation, water pump station rehabilitation, sewer lift station rehabilitation, and community funded pavement projects.
Associate Civil Engineer
The Associate Civil Engineer performs complex engineering work in the office and field for environmental, water, sewer, street, and other Public Works projects and programs, ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current codes and criteria.
Other duties may include determining codes, regulations, and requirements; preparing, reviewing and coordinating the development of engineering plans, specifications, agreements, maps, reports; providing project management for municipal public works projects; reviewing construction bids; administering grant applications; responding to public inquiries; assisting in survey work; administering permits for utility, street use, and franchise; and providing engineering support for other City departments.
Senior Civil Engineer
The Senior Civil Engineer performs is responsible for managing a wide range of Public Works projects and initiatives, as well as the potential to supervise and oversee professional, journey-level, and technical staff and consultants. The Senior Civil Engineer for will report directly to the Principal Civil Engineer of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The Engineering Team work under the general direction of the City Engineer/Deputy Public Works Director.
The Senior Civil Engineer for CIP will manage projects in a broad range of disciplines including water, sewer, storm drain, pavement, transportation, and facilities. The City’s CIP budget for fiscal year 2024-2025 totals $142 million and consists of approximately 96 projects, including the replacement of Fire Station 52, the construction of water tanks, water and sewer mains and pump stations, railroad grade separation, and transportation projects. The community additionally passed a local measure, which provides for enhanced funding for pavement treatment. The Senior Engineer will be entering into a cohesive, collaborative and supportive Engineering Section team.
Associate Civil Engineer
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
A minimum of three (3) years of responsible civil engineering experience performing duties comparable to an Assistant Civil Engineer.
Possession and maintenance of a valid registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California or possess Professional Engineer Registration in another state with the ability to obtain California registration within six (6) months.
The ideal Associate Engineer candidate will possess the following:
Possession of a Master’s degree is desirable.
Advanced knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods as applicable to a municipal setting.
Municipal or related consultant experience highly desirable.
Senior Civil Engineer
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal Senior Civil Engineer candidate will possess the following:
Possession of a Master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
Possession of Professional Traffic Engineer Registration in the State of California highly desirable.
Municipal professional engineering and supervisory experience highly desirable.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
A minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience performing program management or project coordination; at least two (2) years of this experience must be equivalent to an Associate Civil Engineer or above.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
Possession and maintenance of a valid registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California or possess Professional Engineer Registration in another state with the ability to obtain California registration within six (6) months.
