General Description:

Do you have experience installing and maintaining industrial or production electrical and electronic equipment? If so, Irvine Ranch Water District is accepting applications for an Electrical Supervisor who under general direction, will perform and supervise the maintenance and repair of the District's electrical systems related to domestic and recycled water treatment plants, bio solids facilities, sewer and their associated management systems.

Summary of Duties:

  • Plan, organize, supervise and evaluate work of assigned staff; develop, implement and monitor work plans to achieve departmental goals and objectives; plan and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; establish performance requirements and personal development targets; regularly monitor performance and provide coaching for performance improvement and development; prepare employee performance appraisals and provide input for team member performance appraisals; subject to management concurrence, recommend disciplinary action to address performance deficiencies in accordance with District's relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provide daily work instructions, guidance and performance feedback to assigned Electrical section staff and other team members as assigned; provides for the training of staff in work methods, use of tools and equipment, and relevant safety precautions.
  • Provide first response and assessment for repairs and modifications to District facilities. Troubleshoot system and hardware problems to identify the source of problems and performs or requests fixes or repairs; work with equipment vendors to identify and resolve operating problems and perform repairs and maintenance. Work with department manager to assist in the administration of existing maintenance contracts.
  • Ensure correct recordkeeping and that the appropriate documentation of maintenance, modifications and changes are made by assigned staff.
  • Comply with, and ensure staff compliance with District Lockout-Tagout policy. Maintain department Lockout-Tagout program, equipment and devices.
  • Perform all duties of the Senior Electrical Technician and Electrical Technician as needed.
  • Perform site assessments and evaluations for equipment to be maintained. Make recommendations for preventive maintenance intervals. Create preventive maintenance templates and schedule PM routines through the District enterprise asset management system.
  • Evaluate and make budgetary recommendations on new electrical equipment for purchase. Assist department manager with budgetary compliance.
  • Install, maintain, calibrate, repair, troubleshoot and modify electrical equipment and systems, control systems and power distribution systems. Work on analytical instrumentation, safety instrumentation and process control instrumentation when called upon.
  • Read and interpret P&ID's, schematic and installation manuals for electrical and instrumentation systems. Provide working drawings as necessary.
  • Utilize a computerized purchase requisition system to order and pay for services, supplies, materials, tools and equipment. Ensures availability of critical spares and supplies.
  • Process, track, and assign work orders to assigned Staff utilizing the District's enterprise asset management system. Notify enterprise asset management group of new equipment installations, or of changes to existing equipment installations.
  • Coordinate/work with other District departments.
  • Coordinate/work with outside agencies, contractors, and companies to complete assigned tasks.
  • Participate in the District's standby duty program, responding to evening and weekend calls regarding Electrical and Instrumentation system equipment problems.
  • Respond to emergency situations during off-hours as required.
  • Comply with district safety work-related practices and attend relevant safety training.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned.


  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree in Electronics or college and technical school electrical/electronics course work equal to 24 semester units and five years of experience installing and maintaining industrial or production electrical and electronic equipment is required.
  • Two years of supervisory experience desired.

Licenses and Certifications required:

  • A valid Class 'C' California Driver's License is required.
  • Grade III CWEA Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist Certificate desired.
