This is accomplished safely through a professional, innovative, and well-trained staff committed to the highest levels of transparency and integrity. The Utilities Office is overseen by the Director of Utilities, who manages a total budget of over $46 million and 230 full-time employees.

The City of Amarillo seeks an experienced, knowledgeable leader to serve as its next Director of Utilities. This position provides leadership, administration, and management for the Utilities Office. The Director is over all the divisions of the Department, including Water Production, Water Transmission, Surface Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, the Environmental Laboratory, two Wastewater Treatment facilities, and the Director of Utilities Office. Duties involve all aspects of utilities dealing with financing, budgeting, personnel, short- and long-term planning, public relations, property acquisition, and operational control, as well as liaison between management, staff, and residents of Amarillo.

A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and a minimum of ten years’ experience in water and sewer utility, with at least five years in a management position, is required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Local government experience is highly desired. A registered professional engineer in Texas or applicable Texas Commission on Environmental Quality licensing is preferred. A valid Texas Driver’s License is required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.

The salary range for this position is $96,000 - $190,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
