The City of Grand Rapids is conducting a national search for a Public Services Director who will lead the Grand Rapids department of Public Works.

Salary: $107,175-$136,704

The purpose of this job is to plan, organize, implement and direct the City's Public Services Department's delivery of street maintenance and solid waste services. Manages all aspects of human resources, materials and equipment. Work is performed under the executive direction of a Managing Director. Supervision is exercised directly or indirectly over all employees in department composed of approximately 80 personnel.

Plans, organizes, implements and directs the City's Street Maintenance and Solid Waste operations including service delivery enhancements, potential markets or evaluating new options and technologyOversees all aspects of Department's financial activity. Reviews monthly financial reports by cost centers. Reviews metrics and benchmarks for services provided. Approves payroll and accounts payable for the DepartmentOversees all aspects of Department personnel in terms of hiring new employees, signing advices for payroll adjustments and handling employee disciplineConducts employee performance reviews, signs all performance reports and provides continuous mentoring and counseling of Department employeesPrepares and presents annual Department budget including operating as well as capital budgets.Conducts presentations to City Manager and City Commission.Monitors budget performance throughout the entire yearPerforms related work as required

Minimum Training and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Business Management or a related fieldAt least seven (7) to nine (9) years progressively more responsible experience in the administration of public works activities, street maintenance and/or solid waste services, including supervisory or managerial experienceAny equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
