The Public Works Supervisor will organize, monitor and supervise the department including street, right of way maintenance operations within the Public Works Department; he/she will also perform a variety of technical tasks relative to street, right of way; and to provide technical assistance to the Public Works Director. Individual will supervise maintenance staff.
Duties to include:
Training, supervising and evaluating the work of the Public Works Maintenance personnel.
Establishing schedules and methods for providing maintenance; identifying resource needs.
Organizing and assigning duties to staff involved in streets and right of way.
Monitoring waste disposal of hazardous materials.
Monitoring operations and activities of street, right of way; recommending improvements and modifications; preparing various routine reports on operations and activities.
Participating in budget preparation; prepare cost estimates; submit justifications for equipment.
Monitoring and controlling supplies and equipment; ordering supplies and tools as necessary; preparing documents for equipment procurement.
Answering questions and providing information to the public; investigating complaints and recommending corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
Performing the most complex public works maintenance duties; provide technical assistance to crews.
Participating in preparations of contract documents and construction specifications for various public works projects, including major street striping and specific modifications.
Coordinating with contractors in providing contract services.
Four years of increasingly responsible public works maintenance experience, including supervisory responsibility.
Graduate from accredited high school or GED.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
Good driving record
Possession of, or ability to obtain, appropriate valid OSHA Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification.
The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented and hands-on supervisor who if knowledgeable of practices of street, and right of way; able to organize, implement and direct public works maintenance operations and activities; has knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices and management; develop cost estimates for supplies and equipment; computer literate (Microsoft Word and Excel). In addition to being organized and resourceful, he/she must have the skills to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public. Strong background in local, state and federal laws, ordinances and rules. Government experience and ability to speak Spanish are preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range is $60,639.16 - $83,380.59.
