Maintain and repair various building mechanical systems (the position may specialize in one or more trades such as HVAC, plumbing, digital controls, security systems, etc.). Supervise junior technicians and contractors conducting maintenance and repair of such systems.
Duties include but not limited to:
Perform troubleshooting/maintenance/repair in trade specialty, for instance, HVAC, plumbing, digital controls, security systems, etc., or some combination of these trades
Perform troubleshooting/maintenance/repair on building systems other than trade specialty (i.e. if specialty is HVAC, then mechanical systems other than HVAC).
Assist in the budget preparation process, write work orders, locate and order parts, and maintain maintenance files/records.
Participate in process improvement activities and work-groups.
Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in a construction or maintenance trade, or a closely related field.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Virginia DPOR (Dept. of Professional Occupational Regulation) Master’s License, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment, in a mechanical trade or trades; EPA, CFC license type 2, 3, or universal. Additional special skills or equipment certification may be required.
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
