There are (2) vacancies in the Engineering & Construction Management Department.

This recruitment is being conducted to fill (1) Regular Full-Time vacancy and (1) Limited Term (2 Year) vacancy. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future Regular Full-Time OR Limited Term (2 Year) vacancies as they occur during the active status of the eligibility list.

 
Depending on qualifications, an individual may be hired as a Senior Associate Engineer, Senior Associate Engineer-PE, or Senior Engineer. 
 
For vacancies filled as a Limited-Term (2 Year) employment opportunity the employment terms are as follows: Limited-term employees are "AT-WILL" employees, and their employment can be terminated at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. A full-time, limited-term employee shall be eligible for the same insurance and leave benefits, as a regular Agency employee occupying the same regular classification, pursuant to the applicable Personnel Manual or MOU EXCEPT for the following: educational reimbursements, certification or licensing payments/reimbursements and computer loans.
Salary Range:

 
Senior Associate Engineer UN 184 ($8,493.44 - $10,348.45/monthly)

Senior Associate Engineer-PE UN 185 ($8,917.85 - $10,865.54/monthly)
Senior Engineer PR 187 ($9,831.95 - $11,979.26/monthly)

GENERAL PURPOSE

Senior Associate Engineer:
Under direction, performs difficult to complex, professional engineering-related duties for a number of functional areas, including CIP project planning/design, engineering and construction project management, environmental resource planning and compliance monitoring, maintenance/reliability engineering, plant operations technical support, energy management and recycled water program management; and performs related duties as assigned.

Senior Associate Engineer-PE:
Under direction, performs complex, professional engineering-related duties for a number of functional areas, including CIP project planning/design, engineering and construction project management, environmental resource planning and compliance monitoring, maintenance/reliability engineering, plant operations technical support, energy management and recycled water program management; and performs related duties as assigned.

Senior Engineer:
Under general direction, plans, supervises and participates in the work of an engineering or planning unit; oversees and performs complex, professional engineering duties for a number of functional areas, including CIP project planning/design, engineering project management, environ-mental resource planning, compliance monitoring and energy management; and performs related duties as assigned.
 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Senior Associate Engineer:
Senior Associate Engineer is an advanced professional-level class in the engineering class series. Staffing for the class can be found in multiple Agency division/departments, including Engineering & Construction, Environmental Planning & Compliance, Technical Services, Operations and Maintenance. Incumbents perform difficult professional engineering, planning, operational and project management work requiring advanced levels of professional training and experience. Assignments are either broad in scope or project focused, requiring the exercise of judgment and initiative in achieving results and coordinating the work with other Agency departments and external consultants, contractors and entities.
 
Senior Associate Engineer is distinguished from Senior Associate Engineer-PE in that incumbents in the latter class are registered Professional Engineers and may stamp final engineering plans. Incumbents in the Senior Associate Engineer class may be advanced to Senior Associate Engineer-PE upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer.

Senior Associate Engineer-PE:
Senior Associate Engineer – PE is the advanced, registered professional-level class in the engineering class series. Staffing for the class can be found in multiple Agency division/departments, including Engineering & Construction, Environmental Planning & Compliance, Technical Services, Operations and Maintenance. Incumbents perform complex professional engineering, planning, operational and project management work requiring advanced levels of professional training and experience. Assignments are either broad in scope or project focused, requiring the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in achieving results and coordinating the work with other Agency departments and external consultants, contractors and entities.
 
The Senior Associate Engineer – PE is distinguished from the Senior Associate Engineer in that incumbents in the former class are registered Professional Engineers.

Senior Engineer:
Senior Engineer is the supervisory and advanced professional-level class in the engineering class series. Staffing for the class could be assigned to several Agency divisions/departments, including Engineering & Construction, Environmental Planning & Compliance, and Maintenance. Incumbents may supervise and/or participate in complex professional engineering, planning and project management work requiring advanced levels of professional training/experience and registration as a Professional Engineer. Assignments are typically broad in scope, requiring the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in achieving results and coordinating the work with other Agency departments and external consultants, contractors and entities.
 
Senior Engineer is distinguished from Senior Associate Engineer in that incumbents in the former class are expected to perform independently on more complex assignments, supervise a unit of professional and technical staff, and maintain full understanding of Agency processes, policies and requirements.

Job Requirements:
 
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Senior Associate Engineer:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline, and at least four years of progressively responsible and diversified engineering and project management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Senior Associate Engineer-PE: 
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline, and at least four years of progressively responsible and diversified engineering and project management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Senior Engineer: 
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in engineering, and at least ten years of focused engineering experience, or six years of progressively responsible diversified engineering and project management experience, preferably in a wastewater/water utility, four years of which were at the level of IEUA's Senior Associate Engineer-PE; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
 
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements for all positions:
A valid Class "C" California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program.

Senior Associate Engineer:
Certification as an F.E.
 
Senior Associate Engineer-PE: 
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.

Senior Engineer:
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.
