General Duty Statement
Performs entry-level professional engineering in the investigation, design, inspection, operation, construction or maintenance of streets, alleys, sewers, bridges, and other Public Works projects. Assists with research work, contract administration, and preparation of reports and maintenance records. Performs related work as assigned.

Information on Current Vacancies:
Civil Engineer I - Sewer Utility: This position is needed to assist the Sewer Utility Division in completing projects and/or meet requirements for complying with local, state, and federal regulations in maintaining the city's sanitary and storm sewer systems.
Civil Engineer I - Bridges: This position will perform the following duties under the direction of a Licensed Professional Engineer:
- Design of bridge, wall and miscellaneous structures according to AASHTO, MnDOT, ACI and other governing design codes.
- Use of AutoCAD in production of project plans.
- Analysis of existing bridges to determine load capacities.
- Assist staff in the Annual Bridge Inspection Program.
- Production of bridge overload permits.
- Field inspections of bridge construction projects, requiring contractor interaction.
- Technical writing of reports and project specifications.
The ideal candidate will have a self-starter demeanor, structures experience in their educational background, an ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, and the ability to work both within a group and as an individual.
A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. No substitution for education.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating
The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to Supplemental Questionnaire. Be as specific and detailed as possible in completing your application and questionnaire. You must submit your completed application and supplemental questionnaire by the application deadline.

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists typically are created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately one year. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.
Final Selection Process: A Hiring Manager will consider applicants placed on the list of eligible candidates. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
