The maintenance technician performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of various infrastructure, including parks, streets, trails, sidewalks, bridges, roadsides, irrigation systems, drainage systems, and signage.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Maintains and repairs streets, roads, and public grounds as assigned including removing and replacing road materials, mowing and trimming rights-of-way, weed control, litter removal, and sign maintenance. Operates a variety of equipment including 1-ton dump trucks, and miscellaneous hand tools. Completes and submits daily work reports, work orders, and payroll timesheets in an accurate and timely manner.
Removes debris and weeds from alleys, trims trees and limbs, hauls road base and other necessary materials from asphalt, sand or gravel facilities, and transport to job site including occasional mountain driving to haul and stockpile supply of materials used for routine maintenance.
Performs daily pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections, records information in a vehicle inspection log, in order to identify safety issues. Reports mechanical problems for shop repair.
Completes necessary paperwork at end of shift, regarding work orders completed.
Collects trash from containers on major city corridors to insure safety for citizens and cleanliness of City property.
Operates backhoe and street sweeper occasionally or on a training basis to maintain existing roads and alleyways.
Removes ice and snow from streets operating snowplow trucks, sanders, front-end loaders and motor graders to assist in the safe flow of traffic. Cleans roadways after storms using street sweepers to avoid and deter safety hazards associated with public travel.
Paints barricades and bridges to assist in safety of citizens, keep bridges from rusting and eliminate excessive repair.
Sets up traffic control devices, and flags traffic.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
Installs new manholes and storm drainage systems, by use of cement mixer, backhoe and shovel, for the prevention of flooding and to facilitate proper drainage.
Assists other departments in completion of tasks they are not equipped to perform.
Performs other duties as assigned and required.
Education and Experience
PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education: High School completed or GED preferred
Work Experience: Minimum 1 year of construction work, asphalt work, or equipment operation
Certifications and/or Licensures: None
Required Driver's License: Valid Class R Commercial Driver's Licenses
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
