The Superintendent of Bridge and Street Operations manages and oversees the City's street and bridge operations program to include concrete and asphalt construction, maintenance repair work, bridge maintenance/repair, and street sweeping activities.

Qualifications include graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED. Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or surveying preferred. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience in street operations with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in concrete or asphalt construction, maintenance and repair work in a supervisory or working leader capacity preferably in a municipal government. Considerable knowledge of street sweeping operations and bridge maintenance/repair methods is required. Requires the ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications to include interpretation and grade setting; communicate effectively both orally and in writing, establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, and a variety of internal and external customers; foster good customer relations and provide exceptional customer service. This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work with or without reasonable accommodation. Must have a valid State of Virginia Driver's License. Possession of a State of Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or CDL instruction permit preferred. Must have a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. Any acceptable combination of experience and education which qualifies the applicant may substitute for the more specific requirements. Any person under consideration for this position will be required to successfully pass a Virginia Criminal History Background Check.

Requires working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and extensive travel throughout the City. Incumbent will be required to respond to emergency situations on a 24/7 basis. This position is considered essential personnel in times of emergency or as directed by the City Manager. This is an exempt position.
