Position Description:
This position will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for multiple workgroups under one of the field divisions to include: District Maintenance Division, Utility and Structures Division, and Pavement and Infrastructure Division. This includes the full range of leadership and managerial activities associated with leading a large organization (70+) comprised of workgroup superintendents, coordination teams, and technical construction staff. Successful candidate may be placed into any of the three divisions to best fits business needs.

Driving Requirement: This position requires a Valid Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months The Public Works Department is comprised of multiple facilities located throughout Austin. If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to different locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Additional Information: This position is considered “essential” to maintain critical operations and core services, including public health, safety and utility services, in the event of an emergency. This means employees in this position will be required to report to work even in the event of bad weather, natural disaster, or other unforeseen circumstances that necessitate an emergency closure of City operations. This position will require a skills assessment. If you are identified as a top candidate, verification of your education, which may include High School graduation or GED, undergraduate and/or graduate degrees, will be required.

Education and/or Equivalent Experience: Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus six (6) years of experience in planning, directing, and organizing operations in a field related to the job, including three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Any equivalent combination of education or experience may be substituted.

Licenses or Certifications: Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
